1.What is a shelter member?

A shelter member is someone who has been approved for the online Yahoo group. Shelter members must be at least 18 yrs old and have been or are being abused.

2. How do I become a shelter member?

To become a shelter member you do one of two things:

    1) Join the WADV Yahoo group and fill out the application sent to you via email.

    2) Fill out the application located here on the site.

The application must be filled out completely and returned within one week of joining the Yahoo group. At time of receiving the application someone will contact you to verify information on your application. Upon approval of membership you will receive a welcome letter and/or invitation to the Yahoo group.

3. What are the benefits of becoming a shelter member?

First and foremost you will make so many new friends!! As a member of WADV you will have access to the WADV posting board, chat room and members only area. You will be able to discuss issues from all aspects of your life with other members of WADV who have been where you are or even where you are now. At no time will anyone judge you for staying in the abusive relationship.

4. What is a support member?

A support member is someone who adds a link to their site connecting to WADV. (http://www.wadv.org) In turn upon adding the link WADV will also add a link to your site on the WADV site.

The benefits of doing this are to generate more traffic to your site as well as spreading awareness about domestic violence and WADV.

5. How can I become a support member?

Just fill out the form located here on the site.

6. Are the group leaders of WADV or anyone else in WADV certified in counseling?

At this time no one in the group is a certified counsellor. All members have life experience and that is all. WADV does not claim to give medical or legal advice of any kind. If you need either you should contact a doctor or attorney in your area.

7. I have emailed my application but I have not heard from anyone,what is wrong?

If it has been a week or more and you have not heard from WADV please contact someone to find out what is wrong. It could be that we have not be able to get in touch with you via phone and/or email.

8. I have joined the WADV Yahoo group but have not been approved for membership, what is wrong ?

WADV will take up to a week sometimes to approve new members. If no one has contacted you after that time please feel free to contact someone.

9. How can I submit poems, personal stories or resources to the site?

10. I have submitted a poem, personal story or resource to the site and I can not locate it on the site, what happened?

When new resources, poems and stories are added someone will email you to let you know that it was added. It may take up to a month to get new poems, resources or stories added.

11. Do you have support groups anywhere in the US or other countries?

WADV is located all online. We have NO groups anywhere else in the world.

12. How do I contact someone who can help?

13. I am writing a book, writing a paper or researching for a paper on domestic abuse, can anyone help me?

WADV will at no time be used as guniea pigs for a book or paper. If you are in need of specific information you are welcome to contact WADV and we are able to help we will write you back. If you are need of someone to help with someone please feel free to send all information to WADV and it will be forwarded to the group.

14. Is WADV associated with any religious or political organizations?

WADV is not associated with any other organization. We are not a "feminist" group. We are here to help ALL of those who have been or are being abused. Domestic violence is a human problem not a gender one.

15. I am a shelter member and I have lost the username and password for the shelter member area, what do I do?

Email a group leader and they will get back to you with that information. Or you can check in the "files" section located in the Yahoo group website. This information is also emailed to the group once a month.
